DVD DISTRIBUTION & SALES
Gartenberg Media is actively engaged in seeking out and representing high quality DVD publications of films and videos that encompass important works from the breadth and depth of the history of the moving image. These works range from pioneers of the silent narrative cinema to cutting edge filmmakers of the contemporary avant-garde.
Frame from ENTUZIAZM, 1930. Our initial slate of releases consists of: an array of Danish Silent Film Classics, including important works by Carl Th. Dreyer and Benjamin Christensen, a volume featuring the international star Asta Nielsen, as well as other Danish silent films and filmmakers ripe for rediscovery; a select grouping of worldwide silent-era titles from France, Germany, and the United States, including masterworks directed by Louis Feuillade, F.W. Murnau, and Eric Von Stroheim, and starring screen idol Rudolph Valentino; Dziga Vertov‘s early Russian sound montage masterworks, ENTUZIAZM (1930), restored and re-synchronized by Peter Kubelka and the Vienna Filmmuseum; DISCOVERING CINEMA, a two-disc set of early sound and color experiments; and CINÉMA DADA, comprising the eight films (dating from 1921 to 1927) cited by Hans Richter in his famous Dada manifesto. Additionally, our releases include works representing the richness and variety of contemporary experimental film: Bill Morrison‘s found footage opus DECASIA (2003); a 5-disc box set entitled STEPHEN DWOSKIN 14 FILMS BOX 1/3, spanning 35 years (1968-2003) of the artist‘s avant-garde filmmaking career; and key works from the Austrian Avant-Garde (1957-2004), including films by Martin Arnold, Kurt Kren, Gustav Deutsch, Valie Export, and Peter Tscherkassky. These DVDs are available on an exclusive basis for sale to educational organizations in North America (universities, libraries, & other cultural institutions), and include public performance rights. Public performance rights extend to use in classrooms and in other non-commercial settings where no admission is charged.
