Afro-Caribbean

This grouping of photographs focuses on photography of the Afro-Caribbean region. Hugh Bell’s parents were from St. Lucia, and his wife was born in Haiti. Over the course of his lifetime, Bell made several trips to the West Indies and Brazil. The photographs that he created during these voyages include “Carnival” (Trinidad, 1963). “Early Morning” (Antigua, 1980), “Emmeline” (1970, Haiti), and “Boat People” (n.d., Copacabana Beach, Brazil).
