HUGH BELL PHOTO EARLY MORNING PUBLISHED IN BUZZFEED NEWS

Hugh Bell’s photograph Early Morning, 1964 (from his collection of more than two dozen Afro-Caribbean photographs), was licensed by BuzzFeed News for their 2021 Black History Month feature article “The Black Photographers Who Paved The Way For The World We Live In Now”. Bell’s photo took pride of place at the top of the article.

Hugh Bell was a renowned art and commercial photographer, known primarily for his outstanding series of jazz photographs taken mostly in New York City in the 1950s. Also noted are his photos of theater and dance, LGBT life in NYC, Afro-Caribbean subjects, and an intimate series of the Richard Leacock family, among other subjects.
