GME Gem #12: WARREN SONBERT - The Fall Art Scene, But Where Did Our Love Go?

It’s that time of year again when the film and art scenes get serious.  In 1966 a young Warren Sonbert captured it in his second film, WHERE DID OUR LOVE GO? Gartenberg Media has devised and executed a comprehensive plan for furthering this artist’s legacy. See our WARREN SONBERT RETROSPECTIVE page for more information about his films.

Warren Sonbert's WHERE DID OUR LOVE GO (1966, 15 minutes) "Warhol Factory days ... serendipity visits, Janis and Castelli and Bellvue glances ... Malanga at work ... glances at Le Mepris and North by Northwest ... girl rock groups and a disco opening ... a romp through the Modern. My second film." Warren Sonbert was one of the seminal figures working in American experimental film. He started making films in 1966 while a student at New York University, and before he was 20 years old, his first career retrospective drew the attention of the film critic for the commercial trade journal Variety. Sonbert retrospectives have subsequently taken place at the Guggenheim Museum (1999), the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (2000), the Centre Pompidou (2002), the Austrian Filmmuseum (2005), Anthology Film Archives (2006), and the Harvard Film Archive (2008).
