FROM ECSTASY TO RAPTURE (DEL ÉXTASIS AL ARREBATO): A Journey Through Spanish Experimental Cinema
This 2-DVD collection was designed to accompany the international traveling film exhibition, Del Éxtasis al Arrebato (From Ecstasy to Rapture): 50 Years of the Other Spanish Cinema. Curators Andrés Hispano and Antoni Pinent bring together 31 key films, showcasing works "with an obvious experimental drive — that is films that display a formal, plastic, conceptual and perceptual exploration ... works that have utilized the cinema as a means of artistic expression, for purposes that are neither commercial nor promotional ... works that operate outside a conventional narrative." Presented are over 3 hours of films by artists whose passion for the medium demonstrates that experimental cinema has extraordinary manifestations in Spain, despite the adversities it has met in its production, distribution, and until very recently, in being considered in the artistic world.

There is no art without creators capable of going against the flow: of stretching the codes of the genre without fear of risking reaching the absurd; of exploring the territories that have been abandoned by the demands of the mythical market, challenging the danger of being devoured by them; of leaving the worn roads of orthodoxies, whether avant-garde or conventional. Cinema is no exception to this rule. Without the wide world (much wider than many would imagine) that remains outside commercial cinema, which for many spectators is their only space for experiencing cinema, there would be no mass cinema. For this inner world of official cinema to be possible, there must be an outer space hidden under the enormous weight of the producers and distributors.”
