GME Presents DVD Fall Flashbacks - America’s Sweetheart, Mary Pickford

In order to further the presence of female stars in our distribution catalogue, we are offering (for the first time on DVD) classic silent films starring “America’s Sweetheart” Mary Pickford -- FANCHON THE CRICKET, billed as an “adult fairy tale”, and LITTLE ANNIE ROONEY, a “tomboy of the tenements”. Pickford stands in stature alongside such internationally renowned performers as Alla Nazimova (THE RED LANTERN) and Asta Nielsen, the latter who worked in both Denmark (AFGRUNDEN/THE ABYSS) and Germany (FOUR FILMS WITH ASTA NIELSEN).

Noting the first anniversary of his passing, Anthology Film Archives is presenting the 35mm restoration premiere of Jonas Mekas’ 1962 feature GUNS OF THE TREES, in addition to several other important works of his in the series Jonas Mekas Tribute Screenings. Included in Part 4: Arts and Culture is also AWARD PRESENTATION TO ANDY WARHOL (1964).

With the fall academic semester nearing completion, Gartenberg Media Enterprises has offered a new slate of DVD and Blu-ray publications for distribution to the North American academic community. These digital editions are selected from film archives and boutique publishers worldwide, and represent the entire breadth and depth of moving image history. This current roster of releases encompass trick films by George Méliès from the 1890s through to contemporary experimental filmmakers working in both France and the United States.

GME Distributes Canonical Cinematic Works Prominently Featured in the Newly-Reopened MOMA Galleries

The Museum of Modern Art’s permanent collection has been reinstalled in radical fashion, opening up the narrative of modern art to incorporate film alongside the other fine arts, among them painting, drawing, and photography. GME distributes many of these canonical works in DVD exclusively to universities in North America, in order to further their appreciation and incorporation into teaching curricula.
