GME Licenses Footage From Jonas Mekas Films For The New Errol Morris Documentary MY PSYCHEDELIC LOVE STORY

MY PSYCHEDELIC LOVE STORY is the newest documentary from Academy Award-winning filmmaker Errol Morris. This film is structured as a psychedelic head trip, crossed with the story of a possible CIA conspiracy, and wrapped in a fascinating love story told by the late Joanna Harcourt-Smith about her time with Timothy Leary. Among the archival clips included in this movie are scenes shot by experimental filmmaker Jonas Mekas from his own film REPORT FROM MILLBROOK (shots of which were also re-incorporated in his magnum opus WALDEN).

Jonas Mekas Tribute Screenings at Anthology Film Archives January 23-29

Noting the first anniversary of his passing, Anthology Film Archives is presenting the 35mm restoration premiere of Jonas Mekas’ 1962 feature GUNS OF THE TREES, in addition to several other important works of his in the series Jonas Mekas Tribute Screenings. Included in Part 4: Arts and Culture is also AWARD PRESENTATION TO ANDY WARHOL (1964).

In a moving video letter to curator John Hanhardt, LETTER TO JOHN FROM JONAS (1999), in which he stresses the need for Anthology Film Archives to resist the option of merging with the Guggenheim Museum, Jonas Mekas discusses the shift away from Anthology's role as the sole preservationist of experimental cinema, and, by example, the important work of Jon Gartenberg’s preservation of Warren Sonbert’s estate following Sonbert’s untimely death in 1995.

Jeff Preiss at The Museum of Modern Art March 18

Jeff Preiss was inspired by the diary films of Jonas Mekas and Warren Sonbert (who was his teacher at Bard College). He began in the early 1980s making silent, semi-narrative works born out of his practice of shooting with his Regular 8mm Bolex on a daily basis.
