Today we recap screenings, events, and celebrations from September related to GME titles, artists, and colleagues. Notably, a number of artists distributed by or associated with GME were featured in The Museum of Modern Art's film series Long Live the Underground!: Celebrating Six Decades of The Film-Makers' Cooperative and Millennium Film Workshop. Moreover, three polyvalent montage films by Warren Sonbert were screened on 16mm at the Coop later in the month. Various films and filmmakers distributed by GME were also shown earlier in the month at Anthology Film Archives and Light Industry.

The series featured several films by various filmmakers distributed by or associated with GME, including Maya Deren, Stan Brakhage, Abigail Child, Holly Fisher, Marie Menken, Jonas Mekas, Jack Waters, Mike Kuchar, Michael Snow, and Jim Hubbard.

September 29th — The Film-Makers' Cooperative

On Tuesday, September 29th, guest curator Giovanni Santia presented three films by Warren Sonbert — 1978's DIVIDED LOYALTIES, 1986's THE CUP AND THE LIP, and 1988's HONOR AND OBEY — at The Film-Makers' Cooperative. These films were screened on 16mm prints from the Coop's collection. Since Sonbert's passing in 1995, GME has represented the artist's oeuvre and worked to further his legacy through curated film programs, publications, and the digitization of his films.
