GME Takes on Exclusive Representation of the Jack Mitchell Photography Collection

GME is proud to announce our partnership with the Jack Mitchell archive granting us exclusive representation of the Jack Mitchell archive for placement of the collection with a cultural institution and for high profile exhibitions of his work. Jack Mitchell achieved renown as a freelance photographer for The New York Times Arts and Leisure Section. His stunning portraits of virtually every major figure in the Arts graced the pages of the Times, as well as myriad other national and international publications. They include choreographers and dancers, musicians and composers, actors and writers, and stars of theater, film and television.

GME’s Fine Arts Curator David Deitch and company President Jon Gartenberg recently returned from a work trip to survey the Jack Mitchell archive and to view a recent exhibition of his work at the Huntsville Museum of Art in Alabama.

Kino Lorber announces THE CINEMA ACCORDING TO MARK RAPPAPORT, a collection of works by the critically-acclaimed director of innovative narrative features and essay films, running at Anthology Film Archives, August 11—24. Programs will screen virtually August 11—24 and in theater August 19—22, the theater’s first-ever split virtual and in person series. Rappaport’s most well-known works—and the focus of the Anthology series—were created in the 1990s and onward, and feature his signature style of cinematic commentary comprised of archival film clips, including ROCK HUDSON’S HOME MOVIES and FROM THE JOURNALS OF JEAN SEBERG (both available on disk and for DSL licensing from GME).

MoMA Presents Finger in the Dike Productions: An Evening with Ken Jacobs, Aug. 5

The Museum of Modern Art recognizes more than 50 years of support for experimental filmmaker Ken Jacobs with an expansive presentation in the Sculpture Garden including THE WHIRLED (1956–63) and the world premiere of ABSTRACT ETERNALISM (2021), with otherworldly explorations of paintings by Joan Mitchell and Jackson Pollock in the intercises. The screening also celebrates GME’s distribution partner Kino Lorber’s release of THE KEN JACOBS COLLECTION, a Blu-ray box set of 13 works, including MoMA’s own digital restoration of TOM TOM THE PIPER’S SON (1969).

As part of this developing venture, GME Streamline is pleased to remind interested professors and librarians of GME's curated collection of DVD publications from Edition Filmmuseum - Vienna, all of which we now make available as DVD/DSL bundles. The Austrian Film Museum in Vienna was founded in 1964 by Peter Konlechner (1936–2016) and film artist Peter Kubelka (b. 1934). From its outset, the principal aims of the institution were the high-quality preservation and public presentation of film, as well as reaffirming the two important roles of cinema in society: as the most important form of artistic expression in modernity and as the chief historiographical source of the 20th century.
