June 2025 Roundup Related to GME Titles, Artists, and Colleagues

Today we recap screenings, events, and celebrations from June related to GME titles, artists, and colleagues. Notably, GME publicly presented the World Premiere digital restorations of a selection of the early films of Warren Sonbert at Metrograph on June 8th. GME also attended the 2025 Visual AIDS Vanguard Awards, which honored two of our longtime friends and colleaugues: Jim Hubbard and James Wentzy. Furthermore, GME screened Allan King’s groundbreaking documentary WARRENDALE this month in the Adrienne Mancia Streaming Room.

Naughty Films at the Library: Avant-Garde Works in the NYPL's Reserve Film and Video Collection

Thursday, September 19th, at 5:30pm at the Bruno Walter Auditorium in the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center. Curator Jon Gartenberg, in collaboration with NYPL Film Collection Specialist Elena Rossi-Snook, will present a program of avant-garde films from the Library's Reserve Film and Video Collection that deals with sex and censorship. After the screening, Gartenberg and Rossi-Snook will discuss the history and interpretation of these rarely-screened works. This event is free to attend and can be RSVPed here.

Cineteca di Bologna presents Gideon Bachmann’s UNDERGROUND NEW YORK (1968) in it’s program The Rediscovered Cinema | Outside the Hall. In this indecipherable period, where cinemas are closed for the first time since 1895, the Cineteca di Bologna is bringing its most precious experience into everyone's homes, that of The Cinema Ritrovato, the largest festival in the world dedicated to the history of cinema.
