Now through April 11th, Jean-Pierre Melville’s 1967 French noir LE SAMOURAÏ plays at Film Forum in a new 4K restoration, created from the original 35mm negative by Pathé and The Criterion Collection at L’Immagine Ritrovata. GME distributes Melville’s earlier gangster film, BOB LE FLAMBEUR, on DSL, DVD, and Blu-Ray to the North American university market.

The cover photo for The Shangri-Las’ first album, Leader of the Pack, was taken by photographer Hugh Bell, whose vast collection GME represents. Notably, GME licensed Bell’s Leader of the Pack cover art for the 2022 film Call Jane, a 1970s-set abortion drama directed by Phyllis Nagy and starring Elizabeth Banks, which features the LP in one of its scenes.

In the mid-1980s, while working in the Museum of Modern Art’s Film Department, GME President Jon Gartenberg was instrumental in the resuscitation of Warhol’s films, like SLEEP, which were thought to be lost or destroyed after Warhol pulled them out of circulation.

Hiler appears with his partner Nathaniel Dorsky in the work of Warren Sonbert, whose catalogue of experimental films, dating back to the 1960s, is exclusively represented by Gartenberg Media Enterprises. Notably, Hiler and Dorsky show up in the final sequences of Sonbert’s THE TENTH LEGION (1967) and NOBLESSE OBLIGE (1981).
