In March, GME Celebrated Pioneering Women In Film

On the occasion of March being Women’s History Month, GME spotlighted numerous works by women filmmakers that we distribute on DVD, DSL, and/or Blu-Ray to the North American University Market. Most recently, GME has welcomed films by Ida Lupino, Alexandra Dean, and Suzan Pitt to our collection. Of course, many women have blazed trails in the world of cinema outside of being directors. One such woman, Adrienne Mancia, revolutionized the job of the film curator by championing the work of first-time, independent, and international filmmakers while working as a programmer at The Museum of Modern Art in the 1970s and ‘80s, thereby reshaping film culture in New York City (and beyond)

Jon Gartenberg Introduced Francis Ford Coppola's DEMENTIA 13 on November 29th for MoMA's Adrienne Mancia Tribute

On November 29th, 2023, at 6:30pm, GME President Jon Gartenberg introduced the Director’s Cut of Francis Ford Coppola’s feature-length debut, the Roger Corman/American International Pictures-produced 1963 horror film DEMENTIA 13, at the Museum of Modern Art. The film screened as part of the museum’s tribute to former programmer Adrienne Mancia, who passed away last year and who was a close friend and colleague of Gartenberg’s. The Film-Makers' Coop Will Host a 60th Anniversary Benefit Screening of Andy Warhol's SLEEP on December 1st and 2nd

Tonight, December 1st, and tomorrow, December 2nd, 2023, at 7pm, the Film-Makers’ Cooperative is hosting a benefit screening of Andy Warhol’s first major film, SLEEP (1963), at The Bunker at 222 Bowery. In the mid-1980s, while working in the Museum of Modern Art’s Film Department, GME President Jon Gartenberg was instrumental in the resuscitation of Warhol’s films, like SLEEP, which were thought to be lost or destroyed after Warhol pulled them out of circulation.

Jon Gartenberg to Present King Vidor, Henry King, and Francis Ford Coppola Films At MoMA As Part of Adrienne Mancia Tribute

On Wednesday, November 29th, 2023, at 1pm, GME President Jon Gartenberg will introduce King Vidor’s THE JACK-KNIFE MAN (1920) and Henry King’s THE SEVENTH DAY (1922) at the Museum of Modern Art, as part of their Adrienne Mancia tribute, which runs from November through December 2023. Later that day, Gartenberg will also introduce the Director’s Cut of Francis Ford Coppola’s first film, the 1963 AIP horror DEMENTIA 13.
