Coinciding with the centennial of his birth, Film at Lincoln Center and The Jewish Museum in New York, are mounting (beginning this week) screenings and exhibitions dedicated to the life, art and legacy of Jonas Mekas's 70-year career. GME is concurrently celebrating the legacy of Mekas’s storied filmmaking career. In addition to the DVD editions of The Films of Jonas Mekas that GME has long distributed to our institutional buyers, we have recently also made available high quality downloadable .mp4 files of his films for digital site licenses (DSL) to our university clientele, including the recent release of REMINISCENCES OF A JOURNEY TO LITHUANIA (1972) (included in 3 JOURNEYS TO LITHUANIA).

GME President And Curator Jon Gartenberg Gives A Virtual Keynote Address For Seminar On Jonas Mekas Sponsored By The Bezalel Academy Of Arts And Design In Jerusalem, Israel

Accompanying the exhibition on Jonas Mekas held at the Mamuta Art and Research Center in Jerusalem (organized with the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design), as President of Gartenberg Media Enterprises, and former curator and archivist in The Museum of Modern Art Department of Film (MoMA), Jon Gartenberg was invited to give a virtual keynote address. Alongside art historian Inesa Brasiske, Jon addressed the legacy of Jonas Mekas, the universally acknowledged godfather of the American avant-garde, experimental, underground, and independent cinema. He spoke extensively about the influence Jonas Mekas has had on Jon’s own professional career, as well as the numerous encounters that he enjoyed over the past 50 years working with Jonas Mekas, his films and the institutions that he created.

MY PSYCHEDELIC LOVE STORY is the newest documentary from Academy Award-winning filmmaker Errol Morris. This film is structured as a psychedelic head trip, crossed with the story of a possible CIA conspiracy, and wrapped in a fascinating love story told by the late Joanna Harcourt-Smith about her time with Timothy Leary. Among the archival clips included in this movie are scenes shot by experimental filmmaker Jonas Mekas from his own film REPORT FROM MILLBROOK (shots of which were also re-incorporated in his magnum opus WALDEN).
